Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We are excited to have your child join the Northern Wildfire team at the NLSD Jr. Winter Games in Cumberland House! The purpose of this letter is to provide you with more information about when your child is leaving and returning, what your child should bring with them to the games, and other miscellaneous information.
Trip Details:
Departure:
Sunday, December 1st at 11am. Students must arrive as a team at Pre-Cam by 10:30am so we have time to get organized before the buses leave at 11:00.
Return:
Thursday, December 5th at approximately 6:00 PM at Pre-Cam.
- We will leave Cumberland House around 12:30 PM and arrive at the school at approximately 6pm. We will be in contact with folks if we are running more than 15 minutes late.
Accommodations:
- Female students will stay in classrooms at Ministik Community School with 3 female chaperones.
- Male students will stay in classrooms at a neighboring school, Nisto Awasisak Memorial School with 3 male chaperones.
- The Pre-Cam chaperones will be Mrs. Potts (306-420-9688; all week), Mr. Emond (306-420-6180; all week), and Mr. Jolly (306-420-0832; Sunday-Tuesday PM). There will also be chaperones from Gordon Denny.
Meals:
- All meals will be provided during the trip.
Breakfast 7:00 am – 9:00 am
Lunch 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Supper 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Canteen Hours:
9:00 AM – 9:00 PM at both schools
Student Guidelines:
- Students may bring their cell phones but will be responsible for them at all times. Device use will not be allowed after lights out at 11:00 PM, and other restrictions may apply during team activities. It is expected that students will also use them responsibly.
- Showers will be scheduled each morning, so students should pack accordingly. They must also be prepared to take their shower during the early morning time ie. 6 AM as there are a number of teams scheduled to use them.
Participants Code of Conduct
The Junior Games involves semi-competitive activities, but most importantly it’s about having fun. Preparation for these activities is based more on your child’s comfort level than ability. The coaches will work with your child so they know the rules of the activity they are competing in.
1. Show respect for teammates, opponents, officials and coaches.
2. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials.
3. Exhibit fair play, sportsmanship and proper conduct on and off the playing field.
4. Maintain a high level of safety awareness.
5. Refrain from the use of profanity, vulgarity and other offensive language and gestures.
6. Adhere to the established rules and standards of the game to be played.
7. Respect all equipment and use it safely and appropriately.
8. Win with character, lose with dignity.
What to Bring:
- Clothing:
- Warm winter clothing (jacket, snow pants, gloves, toque, scarf, boots).
- Comfortable indoor clothes for evening activities.
- Pajamas, slippers, and extra socks/undergarments.
- Semi-formal wear for the dance Wednesday evening.
- Personal Items:
- Sleeping bag, bed roll and pillow. If sending air mattress, please do not send anything bigger than a double as there are many beds fitting in a classroom.
- Towel and toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.).
- Indoor sneakers, gym shorts, shirt, sweater. Each participant will receive a team shirt.
- Extras:
- A reusable water bottle.
- Small snacks for the trip (optional).
- (Optional) Spending money for canteen which will be open throughout the games.
- We will be stopping periodically for bathroom breaks and if your child wishes to purchase something at a gas station, please provide money for this.
